Diane Norris - Native Bee Keeper

  • Wingham Services Club 28-38 Bent Street Wingham, NSW Australia (map)

Diane has more than 25 years’ experience amongst native bees and for over a decade has been part of Ku-ring-gai Council’s Native Bee Program. She works alongside entomologists, leads workshops/presentations and is a horticultural journalist and photographer.

Diane wonders how many of us can name 10 types of Australian Native Bees? You may be surprised to know that there are at least 1,700 described species (now thought to be around 2,000) of Australian native bees. Most are solitary, but 11 varieties are social and stingless.

In her presentation, this longtime native bee keeper and member of the Australian Native Bee Association (ANBA) will impart some of her knowledge about our fascinating bee species and how to keep native stingless bees.

A stunning PowerPoint display will cover the topics of bee nesting biology, foraging behaviour, the diversity of wild bees and their importance in our environment
