Janine Roberts - Author of MidCoast Stories

  • Club Taree 121 Wingham Road Taree, NSW, 2430 Australia (map)

Please note that we have a different speaker than originally published for our June meeting. JANINE ROBERTS will share the history of the fascinating and enduring relationship of local Chinese and Aboriginal people dating back to the late 1800s.

Chinese and First Nations people have been walking together for more than 200 years, yet many of their shared stories remain untold.

Join us for a fascinating presentation exploring the story of Young Ping, a Chinese man who arrived on the MidCoast in 1879. His marriage to Worimi woman Emily Dates gave rise to the well-known Ping family, whose story offers a unique insight into the connections between Chinese migrants and Aboriginal people.

As NAIDOC Week approaches, discover an often-overlooked chapter of local history and celebrate the enduring relationships that have helped shape our region.
