Mathew Bell and Mark Larkan "The proposed new Kiwarrak Off-stream Water Storage Project "

  • Club Taree 121 Wingham Road Taree Australia (map)

MidCoast Council’s Senior Ecologist Mathew Bell, supported by Council's Project Manager Mark Larkan "The proposed new Kiwarrak Off-stream Water Storage Project - assessing and managing its biodiversity impacts"

Some Netters will recall when Mat gave us a fabulous presentation last year about the discovery of the thriving Koala colony at Bootawa. We are thrilled to have Mat return to inform us on another key environmental project, this time joined by Mark.

Mat and Mark will be discussing the offset strategy development for the proposed new water supply dam in the Kiwarrak/Peg Leg Creek area near Tinonee, focusing on the assessment and management of biodiversity impacts during the works.

In late 2025 MNC Councillors unanimously endorsed the recommendation to build a 15 gigalitre rock fill concrete lined storage at the Kiwarrak Off-stream Water Storage. It has been noted as being one of the largest and most important projects Council will undertake over the next few decades which will provide a sustainable supply of water to the region for generations to come.

We anticipate that our two speakers may just provide a presentation that is twice as good!
